“Foxtrot 400” is a preset pack for Adobe that combines the effects of a warming filter with the color characteristics of Kodak Portra 400. The result is a style that’s absolutely gorgeous when used with autumnal coloring and skin tones. Early prototypes of “Foxtrot 400” brought Kodak Portra 400 to mind. Portra 400 is one of the most versatile and beautiful film stocks, which is no doubt why it’s still so widely used today. So, I looked at hundreds and hundreds of photos of Portra 400 and made pages of notes on the color characteristics. The end result is a style that looks - and more importantly feels - like Portra 400 while maintaining some unique characteristics.
No preset is truly one-size-fits-all, however. Each one works better in some scenes than others in regards to lighting and colors in the frame. “Foxtrot 400” was designed for use in shady and filtered light conditions, but it works perfectly in full sun, too, just with a bit more contrast.
